{"id":2005,"date":"2010-04-19T01:54:44","date_gmt":"2010-04-18T23:54:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.maurograziani.org\/wordpress\/?p=2005"},"modified":"2025-08-22T18:12:34","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T16:12:34","slug":"bloop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maurograziani.org\/wordpress\/archives\/2005","title":{"rendered":"Bloop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Bloop<\/strong> is the name given to an ultra-low frequency and extremely powerful underwater sound detected by the <a title=\"National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Oceanic_and_Atmospheric_Administration\">US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration<\/a> (NOAA) several times during the summer of 1997. The source of the sound remains unknown.<\/p>\n<p>According to thw NOAA description<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">it rises rapidly in frequency over about one minute and was of sufficient amplitude to be heard on multiple sensors, at a range of over 5,000 km.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">5000 km is a grrreeeat distance for a sound, event in the water that conduct the sounds better than air. While the audio profile of the bloop does resemble that of a living creature, the system identified it as unknown because it was far too loud for that to have been the case: it was several times louder than <a title=\"Blue whale\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blue_whale\">the loudest known biological sound<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The bloop sound it&#8217;s too low to be perceived by a human ear. If transposed up by a factor of 8 (3 octaves), it sounds <a href=\"https:\/\/maurograziani.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/bloop_8x1.mp3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like this<\/a>. and here by a <a href=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/b\/b6\/Bloop_real.ogg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">16 factor (4 octaves)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was eventually identified as an ice quake.<\/p>\n<div class=\"related-posts\">\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Bloop is the name given to an ultra-low frequency and extremely powerful underwater sound detected by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) several times during the summer of 1997.
